City Of Lubbock Censors Art
Lubbock Online has an article up reporting that Scott Snider, Lubbock’s assistant city manager for community services, made the decision to ban 2 pieces of art because they were “offensive”. The article has this description of the art that was banned:
“The predominantly pencil-sketched images of a nearly fully clothed mother who is breast-feeding and a nude pregnant woman were banned from the Buddy Holly Center, a cultural facility that pays tribute to the late rock ānā star and regularly displays various art forms. “
The article goes on to claim that Snider never saw the pieces of art that he banned from Lubbock. Here we go again people. The City believes that these images would not be good for young children to see because they contained nudity…so what? It’s art! These weren’t drawings of 2 people having sex or other sexual acts that kids might, and I stress might, find disturbing. The morality police in this city have got to go, and so do the people who support them. Mayor Miller and his people want to bring big business into the city and make the city a great cultural city, and I think that is a great idea. HOWEVER, you can’t do that by banning art and trying to stop anything sexual in Lubbock! Art is something that each person interprets differently and like it or not the human body is, to some, art. Nudity and the human body throughout history have been in used in drawings and different pieces of art. Some of the most famous pieces of art in the world involve nudity. It’s not porn, it’s not perverted, it’s just art. In fact, every time I see nudity in pieces of art, I never see it in a sexual manner.
I get so tired of Lubbock making news because of issues like this. If a parent doesn’t want their child to see nudity…then it’s up to the parent to shield them from it. It’s not YOUR job Lubbock! Stay out of people’s personal and cultural lives. The officials in Lubbock are embarrassing you the citizens of Lubbock. When is enough, enough? When will the people in Lubbock stand-up to David Miller and Company and tell him that they are tired of the morality police?
Parents in Shallowater want to ban a book and the City of Lubbock is banning art. What a great world we’re living in.
What are your thoughts?
