A Gallup series called “State of the States” shows Texans are about evenly divided(43% Democratic 41% Republican) when it comes to party affiliations. In fact according to Gallup, Texas is one of the most evenly divided states in the country.
“The most balanced political states in 2008 were Texas (+2 Democratic), South Dakota (+1), Mississippi (+1), North Dakota (+1), South Carolina (even), Arizona (even), Alabama (+1 Republican), and Kansas (+2 Republican).”
So what does this mean? Nothing really. This is the Obama bounce we are seeing nationwide and it’s a long time until 2012. What does this mean for the Governor’s race? Could a Democrat win the race? Well sure anything is possible, but with 2 high profile Republicans in the run I don’t see it happening…yet.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas City Council approved $165,674 to pay for 3 brand new smoking law enforcers. That works out to a little over 55K per officer which is higher pay than the average starting pay of Police officers around the state, and they have to deal with real criminals…not smokers. Here’s a bit from the story:
The expenditure is necessary, City Manager Mary Suhm said, in order to adequately address complaints about smoking occurring within buildings such as bars, billiard halls and most other indoor workplaces.
Smoking in such venues becomes illegal come April 10. The expenditure funds three new “sanitarian” positions in the Environmental and Health Services Department.
“On April 10, I guarantee you we will have a lot of complaints,” Suhm told the council. “We will not be able to do anything on enforcement unless we have the people to enforce.”

Now it moves on to the Senate where they will pass even a larger package, then everyone will work together to do the new stimulus package.
Doesn’t look like a single Republican voted for the bill which will cause outrage amoung MSNBC anchors.

Gov. Sarah Palin has pretty much announced that she will run for President in 2012 by launching SarahPAC today. According to CNN (link) this will just keep her as a player in national politics. From CNN:
“SarahPac will support local and national candidates who share Gov. Palin’s ideas and goals for our country,” says the PAC’s Web site, which promises that Palin will be “a strong voice for energy independence and reform.”
Sarah Palin sticking around is a good idea I think. President Obama is getting a lot of headlines and to be honest there is no real Republican/Conservative leader. If Palin can rebuild her image a bit and travel the country while supporting other candidates, I think she could build up an even bigger following than she has now. I do believe that many Republicans are looking for their “Obama” and Sarah Palin could be it. I may not agree with Palin on all the issues, but she sure did get crowds energized during the election. Of course next to McCain that wasn’t hard to do.

Just in from FOXCNNDRUDGE, President Barack Obama has taken the Oath after Tuesday’s blunder. They did it just to be safe and to prevent any nut jobs from sueing. Roberts got it 100% correct this time. This from the AP:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Chief Justice John Roberts has administered the presidential oath of office to Barack Obama for a second time just to be on the safe side.
The unusual step came after Roberts flubbed the oath a bit on Tuesday, causing Obama to repeat the wording differently than as prescribed in the Constitution.
White House counsel Greg Craig said Obama took the oath from Roberts again out of an “abundance of caution.”
The chief justice and the president handled the matter privately in the Map Room on Wednesday night.

Since the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal decided that 2 Letters to the Editor per day (more on Sundays?) is a good amount of local opinion, KFYO has decided to put your opinions out there even more. Those of you who listen to Lubbock’s First News and The Chad Hasty Show know that I love hearing from you and now we are giving you another way to voice your opinion.
KFYO has now launched Hasty’s Mailbag. I get lots of email’s a day and I would say most of them are better than what the AJ has put out. So what we will start doing is posting your emails on kfyo.com. Of course your email address won’t be posted and if you don’t want it up there, then that’s fine too. Also, if you want to write something for Lubbock and the world to see, just send it to chad@kfyo.com. At Hasty’s Mailbag you will see emails from people who are responding to topics we discuss or just emails they want to write about any topic. Check it out online HERE and send me an email today!
