CLINT EASTWOOD IS RIGHT
Clint Eastwood hates political correctness, and I can’t agree with him more. (link)
London, February 27 (ANI): Acting legend Clint Eastwood , 79, apparently believes that political correctness has rendered modern society humourless, for he accuses younger generations of spending too much time trying to avoid being offensive.
The Dirty Harry star insists that he should be able to tell harmless jokes about nationality without fearing that people may brand him “a racist”.
“People have lost their sense of humour. In former times we constantly made jokes about different races. You can only tell them today with one hand over your mouth or you will be insulted as a racist,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.
“I find that ridiculous. In those earlier days every friendly clique had a ‘Sam the Jew’ or ‘Jose the Mexican’ – but we didn’t think anything of it or have a racist thought. It was just normal that we made jokes based on our nationality or ethnicity. That was never a problem. I don’t want to be politically correct.
We’re all spending too much time and energy trying to be politically correct about everything,” he added.
We will be discussing this more on today’s Chad Hasty Show at 5 so be sure to tune in. I do agree with Eastwood though. People in this country live to be offended, it’s like they want to be offended and then punish you for not being politically correct. Sometimes a joke is a joke, but people just don’t get that. We are a nation of victims, everyone has to be hurt by someone else.
CITY OF DALLAS TO SPEND OVER $160K ON SMOKING POLICE
According to the Dallas Morning News, the Dallas City Council approved $165,674 to pay for 3 brand new smoking law enforcers. That works out to a little over 55K per officer which is higher pay than the average starting pay of Police officers around the state, and they have to deal with real criminals…not smokers. Here’s a bit from the story:
The expenditure is necessary, City Manager Mary Suhm said, in order to adequately address complaints about smoking occurring within buildings such as bars, billiard halls and most other indoor workplaces.
Smoking in such venues becomes illegal come April 10. The expenditure funds three new “sanitarian” positions in the Environmental and Health Services Department.
“On April 10, I guarantee you we will have a lot of complaints,” Suhm told the council. “We will not be able to do anything on enforcement unless we have the people to enforce.”

PLACES TO EAT IN DALLAS
Going to the Cotton Bowl? Want a few idea’s of places to eat while in Dallas? No problem. Since I’m from the DFW area and still head over there when I can here are a few of my personal favorites.
- La Cubanita: Very good food (Cuban) and I am a big fan of their ribs. If you like mojitos, then this is the place for you. Located at 4444 McKinney Avenue. Mention you heard about them from Lubbock’s First News with Chad Hasty.
- Taverna: Pizza and Pasta. I find this place a little more laid back. Some of our listeners have gone in before after hearing me talk about them on the air. Good people and good food. Again, tell them you heard/read about them from LFN with Chad Hasty. Located at 3210 Armstrong Avenue
- Cyclone Anayas Mexican Kitchen: Rarely do I recommend a place if I’ve only been once, but this place was fantastic. Good good good Mexican food. Located at 3211 Oak Lawn Ave. @ Hall St. AND 5225 Beltline Road, Just East of Dallas North Tollway.
- Coal Vines: Pizza and Wine, what else do you need to know? Very good pizza…the wine is a bit overpriced, but that’s to be expected.Located at 2404 Cedar Springs Rd.
Hopefully this will give some of you some ideas when traveling to the metroplex this weekend or any other weekend.

ONE YEAR…THANK YOU LUBBOCK!
A year ago I began hosting Lubbock’s First News and started down the fun road of weekday talk radio. I had been doing The Chad Hasty Show for just about 2 years when I was approached about LFN and of course I jumped at the chance. I love doing radio, it’s who I am and I have fun doing it. My love for radio and expressing ideas while having fun is why I still do the Saturday show.
There were many obstacles to overcome and to be honest I didn’t have 100% support from everyone inside the building at first. Some thought that a 25 year old fresh out of college couldn’t do morning radio. However, and not to brag, but I wasn’t just a 25 year old kid out of college. I started in radio in 2003 at 950AM with Williams and Hyatt as an intern, then moved on to produce the morning show (disaster) at the same station. Then when Williams and Hyatt moved over to 1340AM…so did I. Then I was offered the Saturday show on KFYO. In other words…I knew how to do radio and how not to do radio. Now, don’t get me wrong, there are things I still have to learn and I learn something new it seems everyday. KFYO’s Robert Snyder knew all of this and my passion and because of his effort and confidence I am able to on the radio in the mornings. (Those who can’t stand me can forward your complaints to him). Another person to thank is Ryan Hyatt. Hyatt is a mentor and friend who helped show me the ropes of radio, and still gives me advice today. It always helps to have someone (who isn’t family) that believes in what you do and can be blunt, honest, and trustworthy. I also have to thank Rex Andrew and Matt Coppel. Without them the show wouldn’t be the same. We don’t always agree with each other, but both Rex and Coppel bring a unique and informed opinion and perspective to the show. They are great to work with and well it’s just a lot of fun to do the show with them. There are others in the building…and out of the building to thank, and most of them know who they are, but if I wrote about them all this would be really long.
HOWEVER, there is someone else to thank. YOU. When I first joined LFN it was a much different show and the audience didn’t seem that involved. Since then the ratings have skyrocketed, there are more callers, and more people are emailing the show. We even have more and more younger listeners listening to the show and getting involved in talk radio. I think interaction is the key when it comes to talk radio. Sure I love to give my opinion, but I also enjoy hearing yours. Sure we may disagree on an issue or two, but who said debate was a bad thing? And yes, there are some people who can’t stand me, but…they still listen. The more calls and emails we get, the better. We always have the phone lines open for you and as we head into 2009 I hope we get even more calls, new callers, and emails.
After one year on the air on LFN, I thank each and every one of you. You let us inside your home, car, and business to entertain and inform and without you I wouldn’t get to do what I love doing. It is still amazing one year later that I get to do this as a job. Keep tuning in, keep calling in or emailing in, and tell your friends about us.
Thank You Lubbock!

Eddie Murphy To Play The Riddler In The Next Batman?
The Sun is reporting that the 3rd Batman installment which is set to open in 2010. Right now the film is working under the name Gotham. Eddie Murphy has reportedly signed on to play the Riddler, Shia LaBeouf (who I can’t stand for some reason) will play Robin (blah), and Rachel Weisz will be Catwoman.
Here is the article: LINK
Well…I’m not sure if I like the Robin character being introduced or not. Again, I don’t like Shia LaBeouf, but I will trust Nolan. He hasn’t let anyone down yet with his verson’s of Batman.
Also, the 3rd installment of Batman is supposed to end as a cliffhanger…is Batman dead or alive? Good way to end it I think. If they make a lot of money…here comes the 4th installment. If not, bye bye Batman.
So what do you think about the new cast?
Lubbock Music Festival May Disappear
In today’s AJ we got to read that the Lubbock Music Festival may disappear after this year because the City Council didn’t budget money for the festival in next years budget. What does the City Council have to do with the festival? Well for 4 years they have been giving Don Caldwell and company $175,000 a year for the LMF. In other words the City of Lubbock has been in the festival business for 4 years and Don Caldwell was in charge.
Well now that money is gone. It’s been 4 years and the festival still hasn’t made any money and it can’t stand on it’s own. Paul Beane and Mayor Martin have taken the attitude of sink or swim for the festival and I can’t say I disagree with them.
In the paper Jim Douglass, who is in a battle with static in the morning to see who can get the lowest ratings, blames the City Council for LMF not getting top headliners. Really Jim? The City Council is at fault? What about the dopes that put the Lubbock Music Festival on the same 2 nights of one other festival? I understand why Douglass, Caldwell and the rest of the party planning committee forgot about that other festival since it’s pretty new and small. Yes, Austin City Limits kicks off on the 26th and goes until the 28th. Oh and ACL is just one of the largest music festivals in the nation and attracts the big name headliners. Here is the lineup for ACL. And since there is no Tech game this weekend…where do you think all the LIVE music fans will be..esp. those who are college students. Oops! Oh, and for families and those college students who can hear Wade Bowen at Wild West once a month, the South Plains Fair is also going this weekend.
The 2 big acts this year for the LMF, K.C. and the Sunshine Band AND Wade Bowen. Wow. Go Lubbock! The Lubbock Music Festival could have been held at some other time, but they chose this weekend when all the good acts are in Austin. Maybe they should have rethought that. After 4 years it’s time for the Lubbock Music Festival to sink or swim. I love live music, but at some point your either successful or not. If LMF fails…something will take it’s place. I’m still all for a music festival, but only if it’s done right.
