Mayor David Miller Is Running

6 Mar

So the Mayor of Lubbock has decided to run for re-election. A supporter of his called into LFN this morning and I asked the caller to tell me one thing the Mayor had accomplished. He couldn’t, can you?

Mayor Miller did get red light cams up for 6 months and double rear-end collisions and then was deciding vote to bring down the cams after it was revealed that legal disclaimer falsely claimed car registrations might be blocked if ticket wasn’t paid.

Mayor Miller did “storm” off stage at Cavazos Middle School AFTER Tex Slim&Wes Nessman tried to ask questions about the conduct of city officials that was not “on the up&up” thus creating a “hostile” townhall meeting.

Mayor Miller has established a complete distrust of city council AND city hall with his “Gang of Four”.

That’s just 3 accomplishments that should go on a “Tom Martin For Mayor” ad/leaflet.

    Thanx,Mayor!

Miller has ushered in new water sources (Alan Henry) to Lubbock.

  3. Integrity March 7, 2008 at 8:22 am #

he has increased the pay of police and fire fighters, resulting in lower crime and better response times.

The City Council approved millions for street maintanance, the largest street maintenance initiative in the history of Lubbock.

No one posted blogs before because no one listens to your show. They’re listening to 950, where the Mayor is on…. not avoiding the media.

  6. Beth March 7, 2008 at 8:29 am #

David Miller has focused on core services, effective governance, community services, and economic development.

    Cowards censor/delete comments.

Brave, who has censored or deleted comments?

Alex, many people listen to my show. Just like you, or did you just stumble upon this blog? The Mayor has avoided KFYO because we offer criticism of him and ask tough questions…unlike other shows/stations.

    I forgot to add…

Alex, Beth, Brave, Honest, and Integrity…

Next time please post on one single Reply. Since you all have the same IP address, I can only assume your the same person.

    You cite Clif Burnett?

  11. chadhasty March 7, 2008 at 10:54 am #

No one is cited in my post. People are free to leave opinion. Including those posting from the same IP address as others “Reagan”.

The mayor has done many things for Lubbock. Shutting down Jake’s in February of 2007 because of a suggestive show, “Day of Fasting and Prayer” for fair media coverage, and a few Bum-Steer Awards in Texas Monthly. I see how he is so dynamic and great as our mayor. Now I see the light! Seriously, Miller is a joke and hasn’t done anything to improve Lubbock’s standing.

    Tom Martin for Mayor!

    For the silly posters above:

    1. For “Honest”-not: Miller had NOTHING to do with the Lake Allen water source, it was all in place well before he was elected and the pipeline project already in full planning.

    2. For “Integrity”: The previous council made a commitment to increase pay. In fact, Miller came out, in one of his early lies, and said that we would make the firefighters among the ten best paid departments in the state. He had to back off of that within weeks going back on a pledge he made to them in council chambers.

    3. For “Alex”: The council parked lots of money in the street maintenance account, as is always done and often used elsewhere, but has not spent the money budgeted on the repairs promised. For some time they were not even filling open positions in the maintenance department and councilman Leonard brought this up on KFYO.

    4. For “Beth”: Exactly where has Miller “focused on core services, effective governance, community services, and economic development”? The previous council refocused the entire city on the these things but Miller spent the first year in office with a new priority-project each few weeks.

    5. And to “Alex” again: For the record, according to the latest ratings, and all of the past reports too, far more people listen to KFYO in the morning than to 950. In fact, 950’s total audience is less than 40% that of KFYO’s morning show. Same for Paul Beane, 950 is 40% of his audience. Meaning Beane & Chad have more than double 950’s listeners. Even Jack Dale’s sports show is almost double the audience of 950’s morning program.

    6. To others (or the same person according to the IP address showing according to Chad) don’t waste space talking about the blog, talk about issues as in the earlier posts.

Chad, I like the show! But I have to respectfully disagree with some of the comments made on this blog.
I don’t personally know Mayor Miller, but it seems that he really has not had a “fair shake”. Many of the problems he had to deal with were not his own, and were left over from the previous administation. I really think that he is a class guy that is good for Lubbock and we shouldn’t be moving backward and bringing people back from the administration that were responsible for the mess he has had to deal with. We need to be progressive, move forward, and I really think Mayor Miller wants whats best for Lubbock, and is not at all just in love with “being in charge”. Lubbock is way better, and way better off than the city’s around us and we need to quit looking backwards, and start looking forwards. Hear ya on Saturday!
